CHOPPIES Zimbabwe yesterday held its 5th Annual Save Big and Drive Competition where scores of loyal customers walked away with various prizes.

The draw was held at Nkulumane Shopping Complex in Bulawayo. The competition also saw Choppies employees participating, and the grand prize, a Chevrolet bakkie was won by a till operator from one of the Choppies supermarkets in Bulawayo.

Speaking at the event, Choppies Zimbabwe managing director Mr Siqokoqela Mphoko said it was befitting for the company to also recognise its employees, as they play a big role in its growth.

“We really appreciate what they do for the company and we ask you too as customers to do the same. This year we opened up the competition to our employees, as a way of showing appreciation of their dedication and sterling hard work,” he said.

Mr Mphoko also said this was an attempt by Choppies, suppliers and service providers to give back to the community the business operates in. The Choppies Save Big and Drive Promotion is an annual themed car competition and promotion that runs from September to November.

Choppies currently has 32 outlets dotted across the country. A total of 15 brand-new Renault Kwid vehicles were up for grabs, with the grand prize being the Chevrolet utility bakkie. Choppies Zimbabwe human recourses manager Mr Sipho Mpofu reiterated Mr Mphoko’s statement adding that the main aim of this year’s competition was to include Choppies employees.

“We are duly bound by them. This is a way of saying thank you to them, as we value their contribution to the company and its growth,” he said.

Headquartered in Bulawayo, Choppies has been on an aggressive investment drive since its entry into the local market four years ago. It has expanded to Gwanda, Gokwe, Mutare, Bindura, Gweru, Ruwa and Harare. The company has as a result created more than 2 000 jobs.-@peterkmatika
