Teacher assaulted for beating up pupil

A TEACHER at Donkwedonkwe Secondary School in Kezi was severely assaulted by the brother of a pupil he had caned. This was heard during the appearance of Vincent Moyo (21) of Sizimbeni Village in Kezi before magistrate Mr Jimmy Ntonga for assault charges.It is the State’s case that on 4 April at 8pm the complainant, Mr Mduduzi Sibanda (32), was drinking beer at Stero Business Centre when the accused approached him.

Moyo is reported to have accused the complainant of beating up his younger brother who is a pupil at Donkwedonkwe Secondary School.
This led to a heated argument between the two which almost generated into a fight.

During the scuffle the accused is said to have hit Sibanda with an unidentified sharp object on the forehead.
Sibanda sustained serious injuries and had to be referred to Maphisa district hospital where he was treated.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the accused.

Moyo pleaded guilty and told the magistrate that he assaulted the complainant because of the anger he had since the teacher had beaten up his brother.

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison of which six months were suspended on condition that he does not within the next five years commit any offence to do with assault.

The other six months were suspended on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service at Manyane Primary School in Kezi.
