SOUTH African artiste, DJ Lady Cream, real name Nontobeko Dlamini born in Elangeni, Swaziland, has released a Shona house track titled Zim-dance.
The song features DJ Style also from South Africa and a Zimbabwean vocalist she only referred to as Tinashe who was in the studio for the first time to record a track.
DJ Lady Cream said she released a Shona track as she had fallen in love with Zimbabweans who supported her during her many performances in the country.
“I love Zimbabwe. I have been invited to play in Zimbabwe more than six times now. I receive a lot of support from Zimbabweans whenever I play,” she said.
DJ Lady Cream paid tribute to Zimbabweans who she said were very loyal and supportive to her.
She said she was preparing a UK tour organised by Zimbabweans based in that country.
“When I play abroad Zimbabweans always attend my shows, I am actually going on a tour of UK later this month with DJ Cndo & DJ Stavo from Zimbabwe and the tour was organised by Zimbabweans in UK and this inspired me to work on a Zimbabwean house track,” she said.
The Zim-dance hit maker also acknowledged Zimbabwean afro-jazz super star Oliver Mtukudzi whom she said was an inspiration to her. She said it was her wish to collaborate with him.
“I am a fan of Oliver Mtukudzi. I love the way he plays his guitar and the way he interacts with the crowd, I wouldn’t mind a song with him,” she said.
She said when she played the song Zim-dance in Harare for the first time last week the crowds went crazy as they never thought a South African DJ could pen a Shona song.
“You will never believe the way the crowd reacted when I played the song in Harare last week, the crowd went crazy, they loved it even radio DJs really loved the song, one radio DJ called me after I left the studio for a telephone interview about the song and yeah am really happy about the response,” she said.
DJ Lady Cream, who has played in Swaziland, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, United Kingdom and many other countries was also one of the four female DJs who played live on Channel 0 TV for their 2012 women’s month tribute edition.
The Drama Queen hit maker showed her delight over Southern African music saying it was heading in the right direction.
“I think Southern African music industry at the moment is growing fast, artistes are improving in terms of production, song writing etc. We are now learning to use different sounds as Africans.
“You get Oliver Mtukudzi having a packed stadium in Durban where no one understands the language, you get Zimbabwean DJs like DJ Stavo getting booked in gigs around SA and I think that’s a good sign,” she said.
