SPIRITS and wine maker, African Distillers Limited (Afdis), is failing to meet the demand for its Gold Blend whisky in the normal glass pack which has seen the company resorting to use pet bottles.

In a statement, Afdis said they are working on finding a solution but however, did not spell out the constraints bedevilling the company.

“Please be advised that, due to current constrains, we are unable to meet the demand of Gold Blend Rare whisky in the normal glass pack. While we work on finding a solution, we are having to temporarily package your favourite Gold Blend Whisky 750ml in pet bottles.

“This will ensure you continue to enjoy the great taste of Gold blend Whisky,” reads part of the statement.

Afdis managing director Mr Cecil Gombera has been on record indicating that the company was battling to source raw materials for its product range owing to an acute shortage of foreign currency on the market.

Mr Gombera said Afdis was finding it extremely difficult to continue getting supplies from South Africa because they were heavily reliant on foreign currency the banks allocate them to continue to do business. He added 90 percent of their products need some form of raw material that is imported.
