FORMER Christian Brothers College student and athletics coach Dumezweni Dexter Dube (24) is taking his begging bowl to the corporate world as he strives to re-ignite what was a promising athletics career.

Dube, a track and field athlete who specialises in triple jump, but also participates in long jump, 100 and 200 meters sprint, has represented the country in Africa and beyond.

He is also a keen basketball, cricket, rugby and soccer player.

In an interview this week Dube said he was looking forward to represent the country in great sporting events.

“My future goal is to be a professional athlete and to compete and be part of the greatest event in track and field, especially in the Olympics” he said.

He added, “I’m trying to expose myself not just in the local scene but to attend international events all over the world. I would have loved to be part of the team that represented the country in the African Championships and the RIO Olympics”.

Starting his athletics career in 2007, Dube has had numerous awards and honours throughout the years like being the 3 time Sportsman of the Year at CBC FROM 2009-20011, National Junior and Senior Champion in triple jump, Imbizo District Athlete of the Year, 3 time National Senior Triple Jump Champion as well as school and Provincial track and field captain in 2010 and 2011.

In 2011 he was ranked 7th in Africa for a triple jump of 14,17 meters in the African Junior Championships held in Botswana. The following year, he competed in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, USA and did the country proud by taking 11th place. He was also part of the Zimbabwean team that went to Botswana for the Southern African Regional Championships in 2013 where he took position 4 with a jump of 14,85m.

According to Dube, an American Olympic and World triple jump gold medalist Christian Taylor has been supporting him and advising him on how to develop and become a better athlete.

Dube’s last performance was at the National Championships which were held in Harare in May this year where he finished second in triple jump.
