AUSTRALIAN rugby star — David Pocock spent the better part of his off season training in Zimbabwe with an anti-poaching unit known as the Malilangwe Scouts.
The ribbed Wallabies star spent his holiday training with the Malilangwe scouts, a group of men in charge of protecting the rhinos of Zimbabwe.
The scouts are part of the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve, which is located in a pristine region of south-eastern Zimbabwe, neighbouring the Gonarezhou National Park.
Pocock spent a week in Zimbabwe, living up to one of his life passions and no one would have envied the rugby star’s holiday.
Instead of sitting by a pool in an expensive beach, Pocock took a road trip through South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe, where he joined a group of hard-working men who protect endangered rhinoceroses from poachers.
The fit and powerful-looking Pocock shared stirring pictures and videos of his trip, including photographs with the group.
“Loved spending some time with the men at the forefront of the effort to protect rhino,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Committed, passionate and enjoying what they do (most of the time) — inspiring to see their commitment in the face of real danger and the challenges of conservation.”
In one photo the 27-year-old — who grew up in Zimbabwe but later relocated to South Africa before moving to Australia in 2002 — is seen carrying another man on his back.
“Thanks to the Malilangwe scouts for inviting me to join the very solid fitness and weights session they put their new recruits through this morning,” he wrote to accompany the picture.
“Really impressed by their work ethic and fitness.”
