THE Bulawayo Athletic Board has moved their last selection event, the track and field championships which were slated for today at White City Stadium to 29 March. BAB chairman Manuel Mpofu said the Board had resolved to reschedule the event to pave way for the National Association of Secondary School Heads which ended last week and the National Association of Primary School Heads competitions which will conclude on 26 March.

“Our athletes needed time to rest and hence we decided to shift the event so that they can all take part in the last selection competition as we prepare them ahead of the championships in Mauritius next month,” said Mpofu.

Mpofu added that ample time had been created for the athletes to shine and perform at their best and do well for the country at the African Youth Championships in Mauritius from 23 to 26 April where Zimbabwe intends to send 20 athletes.

“Our main concern has always been female athletes and hence we are hopeful that we will witness more female representation in the coming competitions,” he said.

At the previous track and fields at White City on 21 February, three athletes made it into the team to Mauritius.
These are the country’s medal hopeful Enlitha Ncube in the 800m and 1 500m, Wonder Walezani (400m) and Nyasha Sithole (100m, 200m).
