BUILD Zimbabwe Alliance presidential candidate Dr Noah Manyika has urged the electorate to be careful of candidates who buy votes using either food or money, saying such candidates have a tendency of disappearing once voted into power.
Speaking to journalists at a Press conference held in Gweru, Dr Manyika urged the electorate to fully understand candidates before voting them into power.
“What I have realised is that most candidates are into vote buying. They use food stuffs like rice, mealie meal, sugar and cooking oil among other trinkets to buy votes. That’s one shameful act because after getting the needed votes, those candidates usually disappear and neglect the people who voted them into power. So it’s wise for voters to know the people they want to vote for very well before putting them in power,” he said.
Dr Manyika bemoaned pulling down of his party’s posters saying such actions were against the spirit of peaceful campaigning.
“We have also noted with concern that there are certain individuals belonging to other political parties who are pulling down our posters. Such people must be prosecuted and we have taken the matter to Zimbabwe Election Commission,” he said.
He also urged other parties to hold peaceful campaigns as they prepare for the 2018 harmonised elections slated for 30 July.
“As a party we would like to implore other political parties to hold their campaigns peacefully. There is no need for violence, and all misunderstandings must be solved amicably,” he said.
He said his primary focus is fighting poverty among citizens.
