ONE of the country’s fastest growing security companies, Blackshark Protection Services has partnered with a Chinese security equipment manufacturing firm for the supply of latest security monitoring gadgets to improve service delivery.

Blackshark Protection Services managing director Mr Epmark Tome said the partnership between the company and Uniview Technologies which is based in China was going to play a significant role in enhancing its service provision.

“We are currently testing new products. We have signed a partnership with a big manufacturer of CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television) equipment from China for monitoring purposes. The products are already in the country and we are expecting to be rolling them down as far as Victoria Falls and Mutare,” said Mr Tome.

He said the new equipment from China was an ancillary to the state-of-the-art control centre, which the company set up two years ago at a cost of over $30 000.

“The biggest investment for us was a control centre, which we put up two years ago in the region of about $30 000, that is already in place and the ancillary products that are coming in are being supported by the control.

“So they will grow the number of installations that we have. The backbone is there, which is the control centre, the units that need to be connecting to individual clients will just add on to the value of the investment,” said Mr Tome.

The Harare-headquartered company, which opened up an office in Bulawayo last year, has since opened up branches in most urban areas in the country.

“We are in our third year now we are very young but big at heart. We have learnt from what others have done in the past and we have spoken to customers to find out what they want. To many (people) it may sound as if we have been there for the last 10 years or so but we are young, we are up to speed in terms of development in the security sector. This has explained our growth to the level we are at today,” said Mr Tome.

The company offers services such as guarding, undercover, investigations, integrated electronic solutions and events security.

“As Blackshark Protection Services our business is to provide security and protection solutions that are tailor-made to suit a particular business or an individual. This involves being close to our clients and understanding their business, hence the customisation of services. We don’t have one-size fits all kind of service, we are constantly looking at the changes in the environment by advising our clients on what else to do to make sure we enhance their protection services,” said Mr Tome.

He said businesses should guard against contracting unregistered security companies.

There has been a rise of unregistered security companies operating in the country over the years poising unfair competition to licensed firms through charging rates, which are below the statutory rates while also contravening the Private Investigators and Security Guard Control Act.

“We don’t focus much on those companies that operate without the requisite licences but we always advise our clients to deal with registered companies and to that effect we have public liability insurance, which all those unregistered companies don’t have,” said Mr Tome.

Public liability insurance is designed for professionals who interact with customers or members of the public.

It protects against claims of personal injury or property damage that a third party suffers (or claims to have suffered) as a result of your business activities.
