THE third Bulawayo Motoring Club public drag race contest at the Victoria Falls Road Circuit is expected to be bigger and better compared to previous races as it has managed to attract more participants from Harare. The drag race will take place on Saturday afternoon and BMC is looking forward to more than 40 competitors taking to the course on the day, with about 11 drag racers and bikers from Harare set to add sparkle to the event.
BMC vice-chairman Zane Shah said all was set for the race and there will be lots of fun in store for the motoring enthusiasts.

“We expect 11 drivers from Harare with the rest being based in the city and the competition will feature more than 40 drivers and bikers,” said Shah.
“I am sure there is going to be tight competition considering the number and quality of competitors who have registered for the race.”

Shah said the Harare contingent include Isaac Mayor and Shannon Mayor from the famed Spin City Motoring Club. The duo will be driving BMWs alongside Mebs Kerbelker and Raihaan Kerbelker. Wellington Bwalya, Nabil Ebrahim and Calstain Sibanda will fancy their chances in their Mercedes Benz cars against Ebrahim Lambat (Nissan Skylines), Tyron Ferreira (Toyota MR2), Mano Zevgolis (Audi) and Adam Saiyad (Subaru).
The bikers from Harare are Leslie Carlsson, Phil Archenoul and Alan Lock.

Bulawayo’s race hopefuls include Jimmy Zevgolis, who will be driving his super-light ultra-fast 1600cc Golf, Darren Pragji, Terry Allbery, Shah, and Aiden White while favourites among the riders are Hussain Rahman, Ian Gutherless, Dave Marsburg, Michael Macdonald and Tim Shultz.

A drag race covers a distance of 402 metres from a standing point, the first one to cross the line when the lights go green is declared the winner of that race. A minimum of three qualify times should be set by each vehicle and bike which will put them in order from the slower to the fastest in the knockout round. There are also awards to the fastest bike and fastest car on the day.
