HIGHLANDERS vice chairman Modern Ngwenya escaped unhurt from a car accident which occurred in Chegutu on Monday.

Ngwenya, who was travelling to Harare rammed into a car which suddenly stopped on the road in front of him to pick up passengers. The Bosso executive second in charge said the culprit fled the scene of the accident while the car that was driving behind him tried to avoid him but veered off the road and was hit by an oncoming truck, resulting in injuries to the passengers in that vehicle.

“I was involved in an accident at 5pm on Monday in Chegutu. A reckless driver applied emergency brakes in front of me right on the road instead of moving off the road as he wanted to pick up passengers so I plunged into him. The culprit ran away from the scene. The passengers in the other cars were injured but I was spared,’’ Ngwenya said.

His car, a Nissan Teana V6 had its left fender, bonnet and head lamp damaged but he managed to proceed with the journey to Harare.

Ngwenya was Highlanders acting chairman from November 2016 when Peter Dube was suspended from all football activities by Zifa. He reverted back to his post of vice chairman at the beginning of this year when Kenneth Mhlophe was elected as the club’s substantive chairman.
