ZIMPAPERS Southern Region (formerly Bulawayo Branch) on Friday held a farewell dinner for outgoing general manager Mr Marks Shayamano at a local hotel.

Mr Shayamano has been appointed general manager of the group’s Publishing and Digital Division, which is where the company’s newspapers and digital media platforms fall under. He is now stationed in Harare.

Mr Shayamano expressed gratitude to Bulawayo and Gweru-based workers and commended them for their support. During his stint as general manager, he managed to turn around the fortunes of the unit from a loss making position to profitability.

“Thank you for the teamwork. I couldn’t have done it without your support. I’m grateful for your assistance. May you continue with the support,” he said.

Mr Shayamano has more than 20 years of experience in management having served the company at different portfolios over the past 31 years. He joined the company in 1985 as an artisan and has worked at the group’s units in Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare over the years.

Chronicle Editor Innocent Madonko described Mr Shayamano as a team player.

“Most of us joined Zimpapers as young men and we rose through the ranks under him. He never condoned animosity within departments and we will uphold that quality. He kept the company in harmony that’s why there has been such great success.

He deserves this reward for his hard work. We wish him all the best. Harare is the flagship of the organisation and we have great confidence in his ability in excelling in his new duties,” he said. The event was attended by other Bulawayo-based editors, acting Southern Region general manager Mr Shadreck Chikamhi and other heads of departments and representatives of workers.
