BULAWAYO-born American football player Tinashe Bere is making it big in the United States of America where he has earned himself a scholarship to study at Duke University.
Bere grew up in Bulawayo’s high density suburb of Nketa 9 and went to Manondwane Primary School.
The 18-year-old Bere left Zimbabwe 10 years ago and he was recruited in April this year by Duke University scouts who were impressed with his high school performance.

Bere attended Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He started playing the sport at the age of nine after watching the movie Waterboy which had an inclination to rugby, a sport his uncles Vusumuzi and Jafet Ndebele play in Zimbabwe.

Bere, who plays outside line backer, weighs 108 kilogrammes and stands at 1.88 metres, said he has dreams of studying sports science, then turn professional after college before farcing his chances in the National Football League in four years time albeit via college football.

“I want to make it to the NFL at the age of 22 after I graduate from college. For now I am concentrating and working very hard to make the Duke first team as a freshman because I want to play college football because that is the right way to the NFL,’’ said Bere on Tuesday.
