LOCAL youth swimmer, Andresious Cyprianos has been named among the 2015-16 College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Honorable Mentions.

The Pace University student was named alongside college mate Madison Kiefer in an announcement made on Tuesday.

The former Christian Brothers College pupil, who is back in the country on semester break, said he was thrilled to be among those given Honourable Mentions adding it came as a surprise because he only came across it on Facebook.

“I am deeply honoured being named among the best and although I had not been notified about it I saw it on the (Pace) university website. I have been working hard and I believe I deserve the honour but it also comes as a great incentive for me to work harder as it shows I have not been putting my efforts in vain,” said Cyprianos, who won a swimming scholarship in the United States last year.

The Pace men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were both selected as CSCAA Scholar All-America teams for 2015-2016. To earn All-America Honorable Mention status, student-athletes must have achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a “B” time standard or competed at a regional or zone qualifying meet.

Cyprianos qualified as an All-American by earning a 3.87 cumulative GPA after the spring 2016 semester in his chosen major of mathematics. He earned a “B” time standard at the 2016 Northeast-10 Conference Championships by clocking in at 49.61 in the 100-yard butterfly, earning him a silver medal at the competition, setting a new Pace University record and surpassing the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II qualifying time.

Cyprianos was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the (fall) 2015 semester.

Last month he revealed he is taking aim at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The young swimmer has also been doing wonders academically as he managed to make it into the top 100 of Pace University which has over 13 000 students.

He has been doing waves in college competitions and recently clinched two silver medals at the high profile North East 10 Conference Championships first round held in February at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the US.
