MIDLANDS Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Cde Owen Ncube has implored the province and members of Zanu-PF in particular to take heed of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call to bury their differences and unite ahead of next year’s elections.

Addressing mourners at the burial of Cde Arthur Nkiwane at the Midlands Provincial Heroes’ Acre last week, Cde Ncube said disunity, factionalism and intolerance were retrogressive to development.

Cde Ncube said party members and the province in general should be guided by the wise counsel of President Mnangagwa who emphasised the need for reconciliation and unity of purpose.

“Let us all take heed of President Mnangagwa’s call for unity of purpose, zero tolerance to corruption and ensure quality service delivery to the citizens.

The President said we should forgive each other, bury factional differences and be united as a single party,” he said.

Cde Ncube also called upon people in the province to register to vote during the ongoing Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) process done by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) so that they exercise their constitutional right to vote in next year’s harmonised elections.

“I urge you all to go and register to vote and ensure a resounding victory for our party, Zanu-PF and our President Cde Mnangagwa,” he said.

Cde Ncube described Cde Nkiwane as a selfless and dedicated gallant son of the province who was committed to promoting development.

“It is though the tireless efforts of such heroes like Cde Nkiwane and others that we enjoy the peace we have today. Cde Nkiwane played a pivotal role in the development of Silobela community. Silobela won several gold production awards under the leadership of Cde Nkiwane. However, the mine was later shut down for political reasons. He fought tirelessly for the people over the past two years to reopen the mine. At the time of his death the mine operations were underway,” he said.

Cde Nkiwane, an ex-Zipra combatant whose pseudo name was Dean Vacks, died on Thursday last week after a short illness. He was 64.

He is survived by wife Sukoluhle Moyo, three children and three grandchildren.
