BULAWAYO-BORN up-and-coming musician Wisdom Moyo, also known as Mawiza, is making waves with his single titled Bosso that he did recently in collaboration with Calvin Nhliziyo, aka Kasi Boy. The single has been receiving fair airplay on different radio stations. It was released three months ago and has since become a national anthem to the city’s youthful and adult audience perhaps because of the name and the lyrical content which links it with Highlanders, one of the widely supported teams in the region.

In an interview with Sunday Leisure Mawiza noted that the track Bosso has been doing well ever since it was released in December.
“For it to actually get airplay on radio stations, it was after I sent it to one of the station’s DJs, Thembelani Moyo aka DJ Thembs, who loved it very much. I am very happy because finally after all these years, my first solo track is getting airplay and people seem to love it,” said Mawiza.

Calvin described Mawiza as a talented young artiste who is different from many of the artistes he has met in the years he has been in the music industry.
“Mawiza has passion, his work is unique and he is that person who is eager to learn from others. I have also learnt a lot of things from the 22-year-old,” said Calvin.

Mawiza went solo after the three-member group, Top Fellas, that he initially belonged to disbanded after most of the group members relocated making it difficult for them to meet and do their music.

He has managed to prove himself as evidenced by his recently released single that is proving very popular.
Mawiza and his two friends Zibusiso Moyo aka Zee and Shepard Magonya aka Mabhetso were known for their tracks Let It Go, I Deserve You and Amazing.

They were little known and were performing at schools and at hip-hop shows.
They parted ways in 2014 after Zee and Mabhetso relocated although this did not put an end to the passionate Mawiza as he continued and started his solo project.

The musician said he was inspired by groups such as Achuzi and South African HHP, adding that the groups have a strong influence in his musical content and production.

Mawiza said he loves singing about what happens in town and everything around him.
Being a banking and finance student at Bulawayo Polytechnic he said he has learnt how to balance his education and music.

“I believe if you like something so much, you can always make time for it, and I want to thank the support my parents have given me all these years,” he said.

Mawiza said he aspires to be counted among the country’s superstars and have his name as a brand. He hopes to work with quite a number of local artistes around the country.

He added that the music industry in Bulawayo was slowly but surely getting recognition in and outside the country something he said was motivating him to produce more.

Mawiza also announced that they were working on shooting a video for his track, Bosso, which he said would be out soon.
“I am also working on my second single which I am hoping will come out by the end of this month,” he added.
