A TRIAL in Italy had to be suspended after the judge and jury spotted a pair of court employees being intimate in an adjoining room, behind a frosted glass window. The couple were in a small room adjoining the gallery of the courtroom in Genoa and clearly thought they could not be seen.

But at one point during the hearing, the judge cast his gaze upwards and noticed their silhouettes, clearly visible behind the frosted glass.

Their discovery caused a commotion in court and forced a suspension of the trial of a Romanian man accused of murdering a 40-year-old Moroccan homeless immigrant in gardens next to a railway station last year.

The judge despatched a court official to confront the lovers.

The couple, one of whom was thought to be married, may be subjected to disciplinary measures.

The steamy courtroom encounter happened on April 28 but only came to light on Tuesday.

The Italian court system is unusually quiet at that time of year because many magistrates and officials take advantage of a series of public holidays to take off a week or more.

It seemed the couple were taking advantage of that and did not expect to be found out. — telegraph.co.uk
