Cellphone recharge cards, cigarettes thieves arrested

TWO Bulawayo men who had a penchant for stealing petty things among them cigarettes and cellphone recharge cards have been arrested. The duo of Zamani Ndlovu (39) and Ellington Ndlovu (29) appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Miss Sithembiso Maphosa last week facing three counts of robbery and were remanded out of custody to tomorrow for trial.

Prosecuting, Mr Nkosiyabo Sibanda said on 5 June, the accused broke into Manzini Farm Shop in Umguza where they stole 26 Econet recharge cards and $19 in cash. The court heard that the security guard Mr Charles Nxumalo reported the matter to the police and after sometime, when the two were arrested they confessed that they stole the goods.

“On 9 June again the accused broke into Jairos Jiri Association premises in Burnside and stole a DSTV decoder, 20 Madison cigarettes and $24 from the cash box,” said Mr Sibanda.

On the third count, the court heard, that the two also broke into Long Leach Supermarket along Reynolds Drive in Barham Green where they stole a laptop and grocery items. Only $38 was recovered after they were arrested.

All the goods and cash that was stolen by the accused on the three different occasions amounted to $163 and goods worth $138 were recovered.
