FORMER champions Chicken Inn shot to the apex of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log after dismissing log anchors
Tsholotsho 1-0 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Dulivhadzimu Stadium yesterday.
The win is the 2015 league champions’ fifth on the trot which is a feat that gaffer Rahman Gumbo lauded his forces for after the game.
“We are happy with the win we are happy that we are finally at the top of the log because we have been working hard towards that. We started the season on a rough patch and we found our feet and we have been enjoying our game time. Hopefully the players will be able to maintain this fine run and see where it takes us,” he said.
The game started at a blistering pace with both teams showing their winning intent and it only took the visitors 17 minutes to pull ahead through their energetic midfielder Christopher Samakweri who managed to latch onto an equally good delivery from Darryl Nyandoro.
The hosts continued to play second fiddle in the middle of the park for the remainder of the first half and the visitors almost doubled their score a minute before the interval through Guide Goddard had it not been for the home side’s superb goalkeeper Chang Mariyoni whose reflex save went for a corner kick.
After the interval, Tsholotsho failed to keep up with the energetic and tactful Chicken Inn midfield led by veteran Clemence Matawu and saw all their efforts thwarted before reaching the final third.
After the game Tsholotsho coach Darlington Dodo lamented their lack of cutting edge upfront saying it was their major stumbling block.
“We don’t have good finishers and we are working on that currently. We played second fiddle to them in the first half but we managed to pull our socks up in the second half unfortunately we couldn’t break their disciplined defence. However, we are working on that in training and we hope we are going to be better in our next game,” he said.
