CHILDREN of former freedom fighters met in Bulawayo yesterday where they agreed to come up with structures to enable them to co-ordinate projects that can improve their lives.
Under the banner, Children of National Liberation War Veterans’ Association, the gathering also came up with a resolution to form structures in Bulawayo ahead of the organisation’s congress later this year. The children were, however, warned against infighting by Zimbabwe National Liberation and War Veterans’ Association Bulawayo provincial chairman, Cde Cephas Ncube.
“There is a lot of fighting within your peers in the Youth League of the party (Zanu-PF), don’t let those squabbles also come down to your level. You need to be united as one association. You need to form association structures in Bulawayo. You need to form the association and lead yourselves, not to have candidates imposed on you. You have the ability to choose your leadership. Choose each other well according to ability not according to friendship.”
Cde Ncube said those who will be chosen should lead the executive and ensure that the grievances of the children of liberation heroes are attended to. He said if the children of war veterans fail to form sound structures they will not benefit from some of the programmes meant for youths.
Cde Ncube said war veterans were the founders of the revolution and said issues to do with the welfare of the war veterans needed to be aligned to the Constitution so that the children and spouses also benefit. The children said they want a system where they are admitted into institutions of higher learning.
She encouraged the children to mobilise other children of war veterans to join the association.
