REIGNING Soccer Star of the Year, Rodwell Chinyengetere continued his brilliant goal scoring form with a brace at Mandava Stadium to give the defending league champions a five point advantage at the summit.

His goals gave the miners a major boost in their quest to retain the league’s ultimate price after Ngezi Platinum Stars succumbed to a rare defeat away to Yadah. Yesterday’s brace takes his tally to 13, the highest in the top tier and most importantly downed a determined visiting side that was let down by two “soft” goals. Following his brilliant form of late the former Warriors forward said credit should go to his gaffer Norman Mapeza who continues to give him words of wisdom to deliver on the pitch.

“Hard work has kept me going and it is beginning to show rewards in the field of play.

“But above all credit goes to my coach who always gives me encouragement and tips to do well in a football pitch.

“At this stage I am not worried about individual awards what I want is the collective achievements with the team. We have a good lead but it is not yet over, we will continue to work hard to win at the end of the season,” said Chinyengetere. Six minutes after restart Chinyengetere opened the scoreboard with a low drive profiting from an unconvincing clearance after the visiting defence left him unattended outside the box. Fifteen minutes from time Chinyengetere completed his brace when he capitalised from a lapse in concentration from the backline. Despite the defeat Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva was happy the shift put by his charges.

“We conceded two soft goals but overall I am happy with the determination, resoluteness and courage of the boys. This is our first time here at Mandava and the hot temperatures affected our play here,” said Mutiwekuziva.
