“May I take this moment to direct all Officers Commanding Provinces to establish gym centres in their respective provinces and also equip such centres with basic gym kits. You may be pleased to know that we are already in the process of identifying and training gym trainers,” said Zimondi.

He gave guidance that the gym facilities that will be established in the provinces should be managed by professional trainers, so that operations are performed in a way that suits the individual officers.

“We want the gym facilities that the Officers Commanding Provinces are going to establish to be manned by professionals trainers, who are trained to design exercise programmes that fit our individual officers in a fun and safe way. They will be showing us the proper exercises techniques so that we do not hurt ourselves but get the most out of the exercise routine,” added Zimondi.

The main aim of the gym is promote fitness and health of the prison officers as the gym facilities will provide activities such as weight lifting and aerobics.
