CONSTRUCTION work of the Bulawayo United Residents Association (Bura) initiated perimeter wall around Mpilo Central Hospital is set to start this week after the residents’ association reached a deal with a contractor. BURA launched the initiative a couple of months ago as a way of encouraging residents to support the hospital.

In an interview Bura chairperson, Mr Winos Dube, said the project was set to start in earnest after they had come to an understanding with the contractor to start work after part payment was done.

He said they expected the contractor to be on site beginning this week.
“To date we have managed to raise $8 225 towards this project and noting that funds continue to trickle in we decided to approach the contractor so we come to an understanding that work starts.

“I am happy to say that the contractor agreed to our terms and work is set to begin this week and we will continue paying off as our teams are still busy collecting what they can from our dear residents,” said Mr Dube.

He said they were committed to the project and would not rest until they had raised the $200 000 required to complete the project.
“What we are saying is that there are a lot of people in Bulawayo and if each of them can contribute a dollar, I am sure that the project will be a reality but I must emphasise that this won’t be a project that will take ages to complete but we will do everything in our means to raise what is required.

“My call to residents is that while we have started construction work the donations have not stopped. People can still contribute what they can and help us turn this into a reality,” said the chairperson.

He said they got support from two local hotels, Rainbow and Cresta Churchill that donated dinner vouchers, which they were using as tokens of appreciation to various individuals who collected the highest amounts per week.

“With the dinner vouchers, our members have entered into a somewhat healthy competition against each other where they compete to get the highest amounts per week and I feel this is a step in the right direction as it acts as motivation on the part of our members,” said Mr Dube.

He said residents had to realise that this was not a profit making scheme but was a way for residents to assist in the upkeep of the hospital.
Mr Dube said anyone who is interested in donating towards the initiative could deposit any amount in the following account number:
CBZ 01220175380050
or
 Ecocash biller code 56743
