THE Bulawayo City Council is planning to include Mpilo Central Hospital in its budgetary provisions to ensure that it supports the health institution which has been facing inadequate funding from central Government.

In an interview, Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Martin Moyo said although the proposal has not been presented before councillors, the council felt it needed to help the hospital.

“This is an idea that is yet to be suggested before council members, our aim is to help with machine pharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals for patients. The last time we were at the hospital, the doctors were not sure of the actual figures needed for the machines, but once we get the figure and a go ahead from the council we will see the way forward,” said Clr Moyo.

He said people often shun places like hospitals yet those institutions save people’s lives.

“We spend our lifetime shunning hospitals, but those places save our lives. Everyone once in their life time goes to the hospital or their relative is admitted to the hospital. Therefore it is our responsibility to look after these institutions,” he said.

Clr Moyo who is an ambassador to the Mpilo Central Hospital said including the hospital in the council’s budget was a way of giving back to the community and making sure that at least Mpilo has some of the critical equipment it needs to operate optimally.
