DESPITE excitement usually followed by pregnancy announcement there have always been shadows of dark clouds. Clouds that seem to be a seam line neatly worked around reckless behavior or simply mischief. It is so difficult to separate pregnancy from heartbreaks as some boyfriends jump the ship while on the other hand some women dump the rightful owner just to stick with a monied man.
“Unplanned pregnancy” is a headache to say the least as it always comes with hurtful unexpected surprises. Nowadays, it is no longer only about men disappointing their partners after discovering that she is pregnant. Back then it was not something strange to hear that the boyfriend crossed boarders after hearing that his partner is pregnant or quick to look for other guys to share the blame. I remember when I was young there is a certain guy from my area when his girlfriend got pregnant, he never denied that it was his, but only told elders that maybe only the baby’s feet were his since the woman was also having sex with another man. Such were the funny stories from men in a bid to evade taking responsibility of their own seeds.
Because of such awful behaviors, we have grown up in societies where we know more of single mothers than fathers. There are women who were used and dumped after falling pregnant. They were left to raise children on their own. It is so heartbreaking to be dumped during the pregnancy time because it comes with a lot of challenges leaving many with terribly bitterness inside them.
Thumbs up to all the women who managed to raise children on their own and those who have always challenged their sons be responsible fathers in life so that they take part in lives of their own children.
However, sadly it seems nowadays there is a breed of women who are breaking many hearts when they discover that they are pregnant. They consider a lot of things before pointing out the person who will have impregnated them. It is no longer about checking how old the pregnancy will be and looking at one’s calendar and her sex activities to confirm the owner. There are women who put the issue of security above all. From all their boyfriends, they check the one whom they think is financially stable. Men are robbed of their seeds as they get to be given to someone else. Loyal boyfriends are dumped and despite one persisting that the pregnancy is his, all they get is a red card.
Men who have been victims of such, seem to be haunted for the rest of their lives as they fail to take it out of their minds. On the other hand, there are also those ones who are made to raise children who are not theirs. The day they discover, some suffer heart attacks and never recover while some are heartbroken to the core to the extent of never forgiving the woman and the ‘innocent’ child.
It is high time women start acting responsible and whenever you decide to open your legs without using protection, make sure you will even be grateful when that man impregnates you. If you will not be, better condomise! By lying and picking up someone to take care of someone’s pregnancy, you are not only hurting that man but your child as well. As Africans, one way or another truth always come out.
Many lives have been lost because of lies related to pregnancy issues. There are women who after being dumped for discovering that they are pregnant opt for suicide. Even men have not been exceptional as they commit suicide or some even lose their minds when they are disappointed by finding that their own girlfriends claimed to have been impregnated by someone else.
Pregnancy is a gift from God and it should not be associated with dark clouds because of people’s behaviors influenced by greediness and selfishness. I challenge both women and men to act responsible all the time and make sure they face consequences for their actions.
