Some people believe that decorating should come naturally but that does not mean you cannot develop a knack for decorating or attain skills and apply them successfully.

The first rule in decorating is to develop a plan to your design which will help you to balance a structure and make it feel more inviting and eye catching.

Identifying the focal point is also crucial in decorating your room. A room’s focal point is its most emphasised feature; this is where people’s eyes are fixed at when they walk into the room. Focal points may include a fire place or a large window or door. This means identifying a centre of activity or attention, this can be daunting if you do not have architectural features such as the fireplace or large window to work with.

The centre point is the core of your room’s layout. It doesn’t have to be the exact middle of the room, although that’s the case in many homes. The centre point of a living room is where the coffee table or centre table will sit, with seating arranged around it.

If the aforementioned features cannot be identified it is best to improvise for example you can fake a fireplace like use a portrait which resembles a fire place. Using a large piece of furnisher can also help in creating a focal point. You could use a large piece of artwork as a focal point.

A large mirror also works well. If your focal point is a large window with a view, you might arrange your furniture to frame it.

If it’s a large mirror or an interesting piece of artwork, you might frame it with two smaller elements on either side like placing two small portraits on both sides.

Once you find the focal point the next phase is to choose a theme which will be appropriate for the room and decorate around it. Use its main colour in elements throughout the rest of the room for example if the fireplace is white using bright colours such as red to compliment the fire place.

Lastly, in placing your furniture avoid clutter. This is probably the best and most common way to make the most of negative space. A bunch of stuff might fit perfectly on your table, but that doesn’t mean it all needs to go there.-Additional reporting Online.
