EMBATTLED coach, Lloyd Mutasa wants the Chibuku Super Cup as much as he desires Dynamos to survive demotion to Division One.

A shift to a cup game proved to be a change of fortunes for DeMbare who remembered to score through Tawanda Macheke, who sprinted to his coach as soon as his 60th minute header went in.

The lanky striker said it was a “thank you gesture to my coach for showing confidence in us and we will play for him.”

Macheka’s backing of his coach is sweet music to Mutasa who admits his future is in the hands of the Almighty as he fully appreciates a crisis his team is in.

“You don’t live on speculation but probably as a coach irrespective of what people say you are employed to do the job I am aware that there are many great Dynamos coaches who are there and can come and work for this team.

“You get your chance, you work, if your time is up, God knows my time and if my time is up I will live,” said Mutasa.

The virtually empty Rufaro Stadium terraces (by Dynamos’ standards) yesterday signalled a team in dire need of an impetus or at least something to play for.

“All the teams low on the league table would want to give it (the Chibuku Super Cup) a goal . . . who doesn’t want it (even) those gunning for the league title would want a double . . . (so) it’s game on,” said Mutasa after the match.

“For a cup game you need to score and get to the next round, we cannot ask for much.

“We wanted to break the jinx for the past two seasons we were eliminated in the first round, so we say thanks to the boys (for the win).

“They fought to the death, at least we managed to break the duck, three games without scoring,” he said.

Denver Mukamba, the boy he once chased away, wore the armband in yesterday’s clash.

“The boy has changed much, the boy is leading by example at the training ground and we need to reward him for that,” Mutasa said.

DeMbare won, but they were poor, even defensive midfielder Blessing Moyo was substituted four minutes before the breather.

“Bisto, according to our perception wasn’t there, his body language wasn’t up there, we needed to control the game,” Mutasa explained the replacement of Moyo with Marvellous Mukumba.

Bulawayo Chiefs coach Garthy Chipuka was justified in blaming his side’s poor finishing.

They controlled the game to no avail.

“Basically we did not take the chances we got, we got a lot of chances but we failed to convert, that is how we lost it.

“They scored we didn’t,” said Chipuka.

As the home Dynamos struggled to impose themselves, Bulawayo Chiefs gained confidence and controlled the game.

The visitors were afforded space in the midfield and made easy forays forward and they almost got a fortuitous opener after striker Farai Matare went clear following a long clearance. In the 18th minute Chiefs captain Gracious Mleya headed onto the crossbar after Dynamos failed to deal with a corner.
