IT all started as a dream to be the next big “thing” in showbiz for popular South African group Durban Nyts.

Never in their wildest dreams did they think they would land a lucrative deal with one of the biggest recording houses in South Africa – Kalawa Jazmee Records, after being rejected by stables such as Afrotainment and TS Records.

Driven by their desire to be the greatest the group soldiered on until Oskido came to their rescue in Yeoville, giving them the platform to showcase their talent.

“Oscar called us and wanted us to work with him, but we doubted that. To our surprise, he called after an hour and came by saying he was in our town and wanted to see us. That completely changed our lives in the music industry.

“We always thought he was untouchable and Kalawa was one label we didn’t approach at all,” said Cebo Ngcobo in an interview with Sunday Leisure during the Kalawa Homecoming show.

The youngsters, aged between 20 and 21, ran away from home two years ago to follow their dreams of making music, after their matric exams in 2013.

Ngcobo said they have been friends since high school and have never given up on their dream of making music.

Today they stand as one of the most celebrated youthful South African groups, and their Shumaya hit song has with no doubt taken them to dizzying heights.

“We’ve been friends since 2010 when we were in high school and when we started doing events that were never recognised by many,” said Ngcobo.

He added that Zimbabwe was similar to South Africa in terms of crowd appreciation.

Ngcobo said they would love to collaborate with Zimbabwean rapper, Cal_vin whom they said has a future in showbiz.

“Kalawa really has a strong name here and it’s quite amazing that people follow our music. Zimbabwe is as good as home for us and we would like to have collaboration with the rapper, Cal_vin who has done very well so far.

“We’ve something that is coming up with Professor and Davido and 2016 is looking good for us,” said Ngcobo.

The group comprises of five members – Cebo Ngcobo, Samukelo Maphumulo, Lazi Yokwana, Wanda Tshabalala and Kabelo Bekile.
