Peacebuilding is an enabler of development, security, social and economic justice, and reconciliation.

And there are some increasingly urgent reasons why investing in peacebuilding and conflict prevention should be a high and central priority:  The effects of conflict are far-reaching and conflict shatters lives and stunts development, says an article by Devex.com.

It is because of such reasons why we believe every Zimbabwean should uphold peace as we move closer to the general elections and even beyond, as expounded by President Mnangagwa.

The call could not have come at a more appropriate moment than now when the Government is working round the clock to engage the international community and lure business to resuscitate the country’s economy.

What should be clear to everyone is that no businessman would want to invest in a country where there is no peace.  President Mnangagwa has declared that the country is open for business, and the country can continue to get more investment if the environment is conducive, and peace is one such big factor.

But peace is not something alien or allergic to Zimbabweans. The country showed the world that it can solve its own issues in a peaceful manner during the Operation Restore Legacy and that spirit of putting the country first should take precedence.

Speaking in Masvingo on Friday, President Mnangagwa reiterated his call for peace.

He called for unity, harmony, love and peace in the country as the country inches towards the polls in line with his administration’s vision of love, prosperity, peace.

President Mnangagwa said the peaceful manner that Zimbabweans conducted themselves during the country’s transitional period in November last year should be continued.

“Why should we today have violence? Let us continue with this peaceful culture. It is giving us greatness across the world because we are a peaceful and warm people here in Zimbabwe, that’s a culture we must speak about, we must spread, we must embrace as a nation,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said the re-engagement drive by his administration was bearing fruits as many multi-national corporations were visiting the country to explore investment opportunities.

“They are coming in their numbers and our hotels in Harare are facing challenges accommodating them with the overwhelming number of companies who are seeking engagement in our country,” he said.
