AS you already know we are in the festive season and only a few days away from celebrating Christmas.
It is a norm and custom for many to give and share gifts with loved ones during this season and that is the best way to celebrate and express our feelings for each other.
While I was thinking on what to write about this week, I so happened to conveniently run into the owner of home appliances and gift shop – Great Expectations – Stanislaus Mupundu, who gave me a brief run-down of a trend that would perhaps be much welcome for years to come.

He said gone are the days when people used to purchase small gifts for their beloved.
People, he said, are now focused on buying bigger gifts such as appliances that had a better sentimental value.

“People these days have evolved from buying small gifts such as cards and perhaps tiny trinkets. It is now much fashionable to buy something big like home appliances. What to buy for a person who has everything is a daunting experience. Personal style is exactly that, no wonder many people baulk at the task of finding a very fashion and techno savvy partner a suitably stylish gift. Unless he or she is the type to leave book-marked magazines in strategic places, finding that perfect gift requires some calculated sleuthing,” he said.

While chatting about the perfect stylish and fashionable gift one could get for their loved ones, Mupundu showed me a few of the trending gifts he had in store at his shop.

There were various gadgets such as plasma TV sets, Hi-Fis, refrigerators down to the simplest of gifts such as neck chains, dresses, shoes and shades. There were even gifts such as the latest range in toys for children.

How is this relevant with fashion, I am sure many of you must be asking? Well fashion really isn’t limited to clothing but it can too be seen in the property people own. Fashion is all around us it is what drives us to coming up with all that is around us.

Anyway getting back to some of the gifts Mupundu had for this festive season at rather affordable prices, was fashionable leather luxury bedroom furniture, which came in a variety of colours.
He said most the bedroom furniture was contemporary Japanese bedroom style, which came with upholstered headboards.

“These are beds described as the perfect state of peace. They are crafted locally and are inspired by current fashion trends, which feature a low profile, solid hardwood frame with matching symmetrical nightstands and an extravagant wedge finish,” he said.

After viewing most of the items that he said would be on sale on Christmas Eve at his shop, I was inspired to save up even more to procure myself a house, where I can work on styling it.

“You can make your houses much more interesting, fun, and fashionable but yet still functional by adding some of the most modern of furniture. Right from the entrance to the backyard area, there are many ways to give yourself and the family the right kind of luxury, style and usage when it comes to adding appliances to the home,” he said.

I then asked him how relevant this type of modern home improvement was for most Zimbabweans, given the liquidity crunch the country is facing.

Mupundu said it was a standard that even the lowest paid citizen in Europe was following.
“Despite the harsh economic hardships we are facing as a country, it is still wise to set a standard for yourself. You can’t have a home that resembles a slum. Every home should be trendy and stylish, with regards to the type of property that is in the home.

“Furniture is the base of any interior. It strikes the keynote of all dwelling, forms its mood and style. Therefore we aspire to choose something exclusive and original, moreover now it is not difficult to find out about all fashionable trends in the market. Furniture fashion is very capricious. During the past years, styles and orientations have changed each other for several times.  Classic and modern are the most popular styles at the market today. The classical furniture is easily recognised, it is made of traditional materials, mainly of valuable sorts of wood. Its forms are geometrically correct without any innovations. Modern glass, metal, plastic and textiles are used along with wood,” he said, adding that during his shop’s sale on Christmas Eve, all shoppers would win various prizes and gifts.

As I researched on furniture fashion I discovered that natural materials are in fashion, as they don’t have the traditional look but become similar to artificial plastic and glass. On the net I read an article which stated that the most distinctive features of new sofas include plenty of hidden useful trifles: attached tables, folding shelves, built-in bars, lightings and demountable trays to support the additional comfort.

Till next week let’s keep styling. For feedback please sms or whatsApp ONLY 0772 337 433
