A 15-YEAR-OLD Form One girl was raped and brutally killed by an unidentified assailant at Fatima High School in Lupane, Matabeleland North Province on Wednesday last week.Her body was found in her room around 11pm soon after the commission of the offence and the incident has sent shock waves to pupils at the school who are now fearing for their lives. The girl, a bush boarder from Gwaai who shared a room with four other girls at a farm house at Fatima High School was found dead bleeding from the nose, mouth and private parts at around 11pm on 21 January on her bed by one of her roommates who went to investigate after hearing footsteps.
The incident has also shocked villagers at a farm in Mathabisa, Jotsholo, under Chief Mabhikwa as the suspect is still on the prowl.
Sources close to the developments told Sunday News that on the fateful day the girl’s roommate Nozithabo Ncube aged 14 was sleeping in a separate room when she was awakened by the sound of footsteps in the room which the now deceased was using.
She decided to investigate and had just reached her door when she saw a man getting out of the room which her colleague was sleeping in. Suddenly screams filled the room as the other girls discovered with horror the brutal death of their colleague prompting Mr Themba Magagula, a security guard at the school to investigate.
“When the security guard entered the room he found the girl dead and partially dressed. She was bleeding from the nose, mouth and private parts,” said the source.
National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident but could not shed more light on the matter saying he was still to get full details of what transpired.
“Yes I have heard about it but I’m still trying to get the full details of what happened from the area,” he said before advising this reporter to give him more time.
A police source that attended the scene said they were investigating a suspected case of rape and murder as the teenager appeared to have been sexually abused before being brutally killed.
Police in Jotsholo, CID Lupane and Victoria Falls Canine section attended the scene. Meanwhile, the body was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals in Bulawayo for a post-mortem.
