FIREWORKS are expected at today’s MDC Renewal meeting in the city with reports that youths from the MDC-T have mobilised themselves to disrupt the meeting.
The meeting is set for Stanley Hall in Makokoba where the party leadership is expected to meet their structures in the city and map a strategy to mobilise more supporters for the party.

However, according to impeccable sources, the MDC-T is planning to disrupt the meeting by targeting senior members in the party from the province, these include Mpopoma-Pelandaba Member of the National Assembly, Mr Bhekithemba Nyathi; Luveve legislator, Mr Reggie Moyo and Cowdray Park councillor Collet Ndhlovu.

“Initially, the meeting was set for Stanley Square but we had to resort for the inside venue of Stanley Hall as we will be able to control who enters the hall. Our intelligence suggested that we must expect some elements from MDC-T to come and attempt to disrupt the meeting,’’ said the source.

However, in an interview on the sidelines of a Bulawayo Press Club meeting yesterday, MDC Renewal treasurer general, Mr Elton Mangoma, said they were not going to be moved by the reports on possible violence as they were not a violent party.

He said MDC-T could do as they wished but no one was going to entertain them or give in to their attempts of violence.
Meanwhile, the MDC Renewal team has thrown its weight behind the country’s land reform programme, saying the process was irreversible and no former white commercial farmer would be given back their farm in the event that the party took over power from the ruling Zanu-PF.
