A GRADE six pupil at Dorset Primary School in Shurugwi was last week dragged to court to answer charges of raping a six-year-old girl from the same school.

The 15-year-old who cannot be named for ethical reasons appeared before Gweru Regional Magistrate Morgan Nemadire charged with rape and he pleaded not guilty, alleging that he only inserted his little finger on the complainant’s private parts.

“I initially wanted to rape her that is why I tripped her down. I then got scared and I only inserted my little finger in her private part before letting her go,” he said.

Prosecuting Kelvin Guvheya told the court that on February 9, the complainant was coming from school in the company of a friend. They then spotted the accused from afar standing next to a sign post before disappearing into the bush.

They then saw him again next to the railway and he disappeared into the bush again. He then approached them from the bush and scared them.

The other child managed to flee while the complainant was tripped and she fell down facing upwards.

The accused then pulled the complainant’s uniform up to chest level and raped her once. After raping her he plucked a switch from a tree and assaulted the complainant with it.

The complainant told her mother about the incident and a report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the accused. The accused was remanded out of custody to 5 September on free bail since he is a minor.
