Gweru-BASED songbird Memory Ephraim launched a seven-track jazz album last Friday at Red Lounge in a well attended glamorous event.
Ephraim, a student in Mkoba Teacher’s College majoring in music says her life experiences have made her want to change people’s lives through music.
The album titled Kwamuri Kwese was recorded in Cape Town and was produced by Toisenin.
The 27-year-old songstress says that she is inspired by artistes like Oliver Mtukudzi, Cyntia Mare, Trevor Dongo and South Africa’s Zahara.
“I sing about real life events and I draw inspiration from Mtukudzi, Dongo, Mare and Zahara. I look up to them and I believe that with hard work, one day I will become great musicians like them,” said Ephraim.
Ephraim fell in love with music at a very tender age where she used to sing in school and church competitions. Last year she recorded a single titled Baba na Amai, a tribute to her late mother, which was produced by Gweru-based dancehall chanter Legion.
“I recorded a single last year at Stunners’ studio as a tribute to my mother who had passed on. Her death pushed me into composing a song which l then recorded as a way of appreciating all the things she did for me,” said Ephraim.
Ephraim was born in Kwekwe and she moved to Bulawayo where she did her primary education at Mhali primary school before proceeding to Entumbane High School.
She is currently doing her teaching practice at Stanley Primary School in Gweru.
