PREPARATIONS for the HRIB Gold Cup Sprint Race set for Saturday at Borrowable Race Course are quickly gathering momentum.
The local horse racing authority Mashonaland Turf Club has set the ball rolling by pushing out a list of nominations for the sprint event which carries a $13 000 in stakes money.
A total of 15 horses have forced their way into the provisional list that was made available early last week, according to the MTCs’ revised programme that was pushed out in September.
The final acceptance stage for the HRIB race is scheduled to take place on Saturday at Borrowdale.
From this list the highest rated runner is Approval Rating at 96 followed by Equina and Super Trouper who are both rated at 90.
Nimble Dancer from the yard of Bridget Stidolp anchors the ratings table after being accepted ranked 65.
All in all 128 horses have been thrown into the hat to fight for available places in the seven events.
In 2014 this race was won by a four year old gelding going by the name On This Rock ridden by jockey Francios Naude who beat 13 other runners including Picalilly for the top price.
