SOME of you might know him as that guy who is always pushing a cart playing loud music, performing his songs and ministering the word of God around Bulawayo.

But as his followers, most of you might be yearning to know more about Knowledge Nkiwane. Sunday Life managed to get up-close and personal with  him.

The Nkayi-born award winning artiste  Nkiwane (37) started singing when he was at primary school when he was in Grade Four and professionally in 2004.

“I fell in love with music when I was still at primary school as I sang in the school choir but professionally I started in 2004 with a group called Gospel Impact and we recorded three albums together,” he said.

He said in 2012 he felt he was ready to take the world on his own and since then it has been album after album.

“I decided to go solo in 2012 because I felt I was ready to stand on my own, in the same year I released an album titled Ujesu uyazi. In 2015 I then released another one called Lento kaJehova and in 2017 I dropped Uvukile uLazaro. All my albums contain 14 tracks each,” said Nkiwane.

He also said his music has received significant air play in local radio stations and.

“My song Ingumlilo Lento once stayed on number one position at Skyz-Metro fm for three months and this showed me that people really appreciate my music and it touches many lives and that pushes me as an artiste to do more,” he said.

He revealed that before taking music full time he was a long distance truck driver.

“I left that job four years ago as I decided to chase what is close to my heart and that is music and the other factor was that it was hard to push music and work at the same time”, he said.

His work has not gone unrecognised as he has received some awards across the borders.

“I am also based in South Africa where my family is and I was honoured to receive an award of Best Male Artist in Gauteng Gospel Music Awards and I have been nominated in so many awards,” said Nkiwane.

Asked on his marketing strategy of using a push cart he said:

“At first we used the push cart to take us to our place where we were selling our music but we realised that sometimes we would find our place taken by others so to shrug off the competition we decided to start going around and we realised that it was bearing fruits than when we are immobile,” he said.

Nkiwane  is a married man blessed with two children, Nkosinomusa and Blessed.
