Harare Bureau
Zanu-PF administration secretary, Cde Didymus Mutasa, says he will not impose himself on the party’s presidium, but await his time for elevation.
At a Mashonaland West Provincial Youth Conference in Chinhoyi where he was guest of honour, Cde Mutasa said he would follow in the footsteps of President Mugabe who continued to be chosen by the people to lead.

Zanu-PF is gearing for its Women’s and Youth League congresses where leaders of the organs will be elected, and presented at an elective National Congress in December.

Yesterday, the two party organs held inter-district meetings in some provinces to prepare for the congresses. The Women’s League has since nominated First Lady Umama Grace Mugabe to be its leader, while several Youth League members are vying for top posts in the wing.

The youth conference will be held in Harare from August 7 to 10 with the women’s four-day event starting on August 12.

The National Congress will elect key party office bearers, including members of the Presidium.

Cde Mutasa said he would not impose himself, but await elevation by the people.

“Forget all the lies that are being said. President Mugabe taught me that Zanu-PF is for the people and those people have the right to choose their own leaders,” he said.

“When we won the Second Chimurenga, I told President Mugabe that you better become the General Secretary of the party, but he refused, saying if he was to become a leader he should be chosen by the majority of Zimbabweans for things should always be done correctly. He totally refused.”

Cde Mutasa, who is also Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, urged all party supporters to vote for President Mugabe at the National Congress.

He said Zanu-PF’s thunderous victory in the 2013 harmonised elections testified the trust Zimbabweans had vested in President Mugabe’s leadership.

“As we go for the congress, each province should have nominated President Mugabe to be the leader. If there are those who are not in support of this pasi navo(down with them),” he said.

“President Mugabe alone deserves to rule this country for more years. Since he was elected President of Zimbabwe, we cannot have another person to lead Zanu-PF.”

At the same meeting, Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman, Cde Temba Mliswa, slammed vote-buying.

The party’s other provincial structures were also busy preparing for the impending congresses.
