Court Reporter The fraud trial of Constitutional Parliamentary Committee co-chair and lawyer Douglas Mwonzora has failed to take off after the magistrate Mr Oliver Mudzongachiso recused himself. Mr Mudzongachiso recused himself after Mwonzora and Associates accused him of having allegedly boasted at a beer drink at Chevron Hotel in Masvingo that he was going to convict MDC “puppets” who appear before him. Mwonzora, the MDC-T MP for Nyanga North, is accused of defrauding a Masvingo widow, Mrs Elizabeth Mary Adams (55), of her plot in 2005 which was worth Z$350 million. Senior regional magistrate Mr Temba Kuwanda will now preside over the case with Mr Obi Mabahwana appearing for the State. It is alleged the Adams family sold their four-and half-hectare plot in Glynham which belonged to their late father Elvin Roy Adams, to Muchini. In August 2005, Mwonzora, representing Muchini, successfully applied for an eviction order against the Adams from the plot even though she said she had not been paid.-The Herald |
