EMERGING Highlanders midfield maestro Peter “Rio” Moyo has got the plaudits from the most of unlikeliest sources, Dynamos’ striker Roderick Mutuma.
Mutuma hailed the Highlanders’ player-of-the-moment describing him as a marvel following the deadlocked midfielder’s par excellence performance in a drawn league match between Bosso and old nemesis DeMbare before a bumper crowd at Barbourfields Stadium last weekend
Mutuma said Moyo was such a marvel in the Bosso midfield and had Dynamos such a player, they would still be in the African Safari.
“Peter is such a marvel in the field of play and had we (Dynamos) with such a player we would still be in the running in the African safari. Peter only needs to work more on his fitness and consistency as he lays back in the second half,” said Mutuma.
He said Moyo was untouchable in the first half as he provided a unique rhythm to the Highlanders midfield and his combination with Mthulisi Maphosa was, but, a “mouthful”.
“Barbourfields Stadium is quite an intimidating atmosphere with vociferous Bosso fans, and Rio and Mthulisi Maphosa’s combination was just too much to handle but I am sure when they come down to Harare, they will have a very good run for their money,” he said.
Mutuma, however, said it was premature for the Highlanders fans to talk of lifting the championship as the race was still open and major surprises might happen in the second half of the premiership season.
“Highlanders is completely strong team but fans should be wary that there is still a long way to the end of the season hence the four point gap they have might soon be closed down when taking into consideration their string of draws,” Mutuma said.
He also commended the Dynamos team for withstanding the pressure exerted by the rampant Highlanders’ juggernaut, and that they were on the road to “retaining their tittle”.
“A draw on the road against such a team like Highlanders is pretty much a very good result for us as we are training very hard to maintain our grip on the league title and I can assure you that Dynamos will lift the trophy at the end of the season,” he said.
Last year Dynamos played second fiddle to FC Platinum for the better part of the season only to emerge as league champions at the end of the season after sheer determination coupled with a never say die attitude in the field of play.
