HUMAN resources practitioners have been encouraged to ensure that there is fusion of different cultures at workplaces, as the country is moving ahead implementing programmes of economic transformation under the new dispensation.

Institute of People Management of Zimbabwe (IPMZ) vice-president Mr Edward Chisi said investing in different languages and cultivating cultures was crucial especially now that Zimbabwe is open for business, meaning that there are high chances that foreign companies and individuals will come to invest in the country.

Mr Chisi, who was the guest of honour at the Matabeleland region graduation ceremony held in Bulawayo last week said managers must also start being innovative.

The graduation saw 48 students receiving diploma certificates.

“Let us call upon managers to account and justify their huge pay cheques. Let us advocate for performance based contract of employment. You need to protect the organisation’s memory by keeping the best employees. HR will be the stabilising agent as Zimbabwe opens for business,” he said.

Mr Chisi also said corrupt and incompetent practitioners will be de-registered, as they are pursuing an HR Practitioners Bill in Parliament, which seeks to ensure that employees are in good hands.

“This process of regulation will help increase the confidence in the investing world that in Zimbabwe, people management is first class. To this end, the institute has already signed an MOU with the South Africa Bureau for People Practices (SABPP) and we have adopted the SABPP standards and a huge number of members have been trained already,” he said.

Among the 48 graduates, 35 students scored credits in the Diploma of Human Resources Management, 11 students got credits in the Higher Diploma in Human Resources Management, one student also got a credit in Management Development and the best student got a distinction in Labour relations.

Peace Security sponsored the best student with prize money and a trophy.

Meanwhile, IPMZ is partnering universities and colleges offering Human Resources Management Degrees and Diplomas to ensure a smooth transition from academia to practice.

The institute seeks to ensure that universities and colleges deliver human resources practitioners who are relevant to Industry and are competitive globally.
