Is tweezing a social statement?

tweezing

I HAVE earned the reputation of going guns blazing at women in this column, but heck isn’t that the point of it all, to keep you entertained and also to hear fashion views from the eye of a man?

Anyway this week — EYEBROWS. I know this topic will surely have my phone ringing non-stop from all the “angry” ladies that “delete” their eyebrows from their faces only to draw them back on.

Before I get into the topic, ladies please be made aware that I do understand that some of you don’t have facial hairs and find it necessary to draw it. That is very much acceptable in my books, only if you explain that to me.

So where have all the eyebrows gone? I’m sure as hell that this is one question that has boggled a lot of men since the trend began . . .

This is one trend that I have never quite gotten myself to understand.

Picture a super fine model, blessed with curves, beauty, you name it and her looks have earned her a reputation as one of the sexiest women alive. Got your attention right? Yes, keep that picture in mind and then ask yourself this: “Why would someone blessed with such feminine, sultry beauty in the prime of womanhood want to remove her eyebrows only to redraw them?”

Seriously, why on earth would anyone shave their eyebrows and then draw them on with a marker or whatever they use for the “task”? This is a seriously contentious issue that I am sure is rousing the feathers of many broody hens . . .

From what I have seen, women that shave their eyebrows look like circus clowns or rather freaks.

I don’t know whether they think it makes them look more attractive or gives them some sort of confidence Whatever the reason it really needs justification.

Ladies, are your eyebrows ugly or you just want to draw crazy eyebrows some days just to freak people out or perhaps it’s just some disorder?

It is acceptable to tweeze off a bit of the brow but not completely. There are styles as well that can be done with eyebrows if they are bushy but please just don’t remove them completely.

There are few women that have thin eyebrows or none at all but those cases are rare.

The issue is the way some ladies draw their brows back on is not appealing at all but appalling. Perhaps I am just wrong and this is a trend in high fashion?

Not only do some women remove their eyebrows but they also bleach them.

I read online that the trend was a result of trying to achieve a genderless appearance.

“Research shows that eyebrows are needed both to protect the eyes, and to signal expressions, emotions and sex appeal to others. While some are concerned that this trend is making people look mechanical and non-human, fashion experts say it is in response to the recession. Shaving off your eyebrows is an inexpensive way to get a completely new look.” In my opinion that’s just a weird and daft reason.

“Sometimes the arch of the eyebrows is not well defined and shaving the excess hair helps to keep the brows looking tame. I shave the bottom part of my brows and if I am drawing my brows, it’s because I am drawing to elongate them.

‘‘If you are talking about women shaving their eyebrows entirely then draw them back, it could be because their eyebrows just simply don’t look good or fit any shape that they like. Think of it like drawing on a blank paper, it saves more time rather than if you were to edit someone else’s work to lookthe way you want,” said a friend of mine who works in a salon.

I also discovered that women with shaved eyebrows are said to be deprived of two vital things: a guarantee they will be able to see properly and a key form of sex appeal. This was according to a medical report on the issue.

“We evolved eyebrows primarily to make sure our eyes are clear and comfortable — by keeping out dirt, sweat and rain but they developed into a device for signaling emotions, sincerity and even our worth as potential mates,” read a report by Daniel McNeill.

History says that eyebrows evolved to convey body language, in other words they are used to tell people what’s on our minds.

“The tell-tale sign of fear or worry involves the rise and pulling together of the eyebrows. They rise in surprise and descend in anger,” read part of the study.

It is also said that eyebrows can also reveal if your emotions are genuine.

Maybe this is the reason why ladies are getting rid of them to try and avoid people reading their thoughts.

Most importantly for women, though, eyebrows are a key to their sex appeal.

So are eyebrows a useless evolutionary remnant, like an afterthought?

Do ladies enjoy the taste of salty sweat dripping over their eyeballs? I guess sacrifices must be made for style. Not everyone is open-minded about change but I guess it’s something we just all have to learn to accept and appreciate.

That’s just my opinion; share your thoughts with me . . .

Till next week let’s keep styling.
