THE Old Mutual Junior Sables sides for next month’s annual Coca-Cola Youth Weeks in South Africa are in camp at schools in Harare as they fine tune to put up a good show in the neighbouring country. National team coaches took advantage of the second term half break to have the players train at one venue since last Thursday up to today. The Under-18 were camped at Gateway, Saint John’s College was the venue for the Under-16 training sessions while the Under-13 assembled at Heritage.

Tanetswa Dinhidza, the Under-13 team manager said the youngsters have been holding their sessions every Sunday at Heritage ahead of their departure for Western Cape on 2 July for the tournament at Paarl Gymnasium.

There will be no changes to the squad chosen at Kyle College in Masvingo last month since there have been no recorded injuries. Last year was a horrible outing for the Gordon Pangeti mentored side who were thrashed 40-0 by Blue Bulls, went down 15-7 to Griquas, lost 14-13 to Namibia and drew 14-14 with Free State Cheetahs to return home from Mpumalanga without tasting victory.

For the Douglas Trivella coached Under-16s who went to Oudtshoorn last year, it was a good outing. After losing 20-17 to Griquas, they thrashed Border Country Districts 36-3 and hammered Namibia 21-7. The Under-16 Grant Khomo Week is the same as the Under-13 Craven Week from 4 to 8 July at Paarl Gymnasium.

Godwin “Jaws” Murambiwa’s Under-18s have caused the coach all sorts of headaches with not even a single win in the past two editions of the Craven Week.

The last time the senior Zimbabwean schoolboys won a match at the Craven Week was in 2013.
