THE Democratic Opposition Party (DOP) leader Mr Harry Peter Wilson has congratulated President Emmerson Mnangagwa for winning the elections saying he was the right person for the job.

He added that the process was well done and urged the people of Zimbabwe to rally around him and complement his efforts in turning around the economic fortunes of the country.

Mr Wilson said he was happy that the country that was crying out loud for a pragmatic and mature leader rooted in the struggles of the time finally got one in the person of President Mnangagwa.

“The results are correct. They are a true reflection of how people voted and I would like to congratulate ED (short for President Mnangagwa’s name) on a well done election where he came out tops. I say good luck to Zimbabweans; they got the right person for the job. Let me also urge people to rally behind him and make our country great,” said Mr Wilson.

He condemned the MDC Alliance incited violence that led to the death of protesters saying the protest was not called for.

“Elections were free and fair although there are some reservations here and there. It’s unfortunate that we experienced bloodshed in the last hour. It was uncalled for as much as it was sad. It tainted our first steps towards genuine democracy after going through the whole process in such a peaceful atmosphere. It is unfortunate that people did not follow the proper ways of redressing such concerns and chose to cause anarchy. We sympathise and pass our condolences to all the families who have lost their loved ones,” he added.

He said he was happy that he fared well in his first presidential bid saying his campaign strategy where he embarked on road shows was effective since rallies had a tendency of creating a dangerous illusion of having support when in fact they would be decoys who could easily mislead in terms of real votes.

Mr Wilson said now that the elections were out it was time to expend energies towards economic revival rather than divisive politics adding that the president was a man of action who would hit the ground running.

He said he was positive that the president was going to implement all that he promised the people of Zimbabwe and not the unrealistic expectations of a childish politician who dreams of bullet trains and rural airports when people do not have the jobs and when they have been living in poverty and squalor for all too long.

Mr Wilson said Zanu PFs manifesto spoke to economic resuscitation and improved life standards of Zimbabweans which was exactly what the people want.

“At the end of the day, we are Zimbabweans and it should not be about politics but focusing on economic turnaround efforts,” he said.
