IT’S been an interesting week as always, there is never a dull week with this column so I received an email from a lady who was left by her husband because she had not extended her labia.
At first I thought it was the usual way of sparking up conversation but I later on found out it was a true story, but I still cannot get my head around it though, I thought modern people do not care much about that stuff until I had a full-blown discussion with people that left me having learnt new things as it is the popular theme for this year to learn new things.
So for those that do not know labia extension is the pulling of the lips. So I was shocked by the ways the extension is done though, so someone shared that women use their fingers to pull while someone said the women lubricate the labia with oils prepared with substances such as herbs, petroleum jelly, tree oil (castor bean tree), roast groundnuts, burnt bat’s wings, and with other unspecified traditional medicines that women obtain from traditional healers.
My oh my, the one that scared me is the use of pliers to hold the vaginal lips and pull them out. Labia stretching is a cultural tradition, and it’s not meant to harm the women. In fact, it’s meant to increase their sexual pleasure! So while this practice may sound weird to us, I don’t think we should judge the people who practise that for their choice to extend their labia.
So it is believed that women do it for the men because it helps men’s orgasm. The belief is that there is more sexual pleasure. Because women live in a community where it is believed that if you elongate men will not run away there will be pressure to do it. It is just a myth, a belief that if you enlarge your labia, men tend to like you more.
Contrary to the belief that in Africa, sex is usually the man climbing on top of the woman to do his business and snore once it’s over, nowadays sex is a process and men are expected to make their wives orgasm and enjoy all the benefits that come with it.
As is the order of the kitchen tea parties these days the bride-to-be is taught that labia extension is not for the man but for the woman, I loved one lady who took to the floor teaching women how to pleasure themselves and not always do things for their husbands. Well, that is a topic for another day.
The “teacher” explained that when the labia clasps the penis it provides soft but firm grasp both feel the touch and the gentle friction will heighten the desire for each other.
Also, as the man pulls away after the orgasm there is the last-minute pleasure experienced as the elongated labia gently peels off the penis which feels as good as a second orgasm.
The “teacher” further explained that labia elongation is supposed to make orgasm a lot more easier to achieve because when the lips are long they are easier to grab and play with during foreplay, they fully cover the penis and cause more friction during penetration and for the women, that area becomes even more sensitive due to the pulling and thus, the act of tapping the penis on her lips will allow her to orgasm and so women who complain about not having an orgasm should try it out.
Although there is no medical or scientific proof that a woman with elongated labia has more sexual satisfaction than a regular woman, the amount of satisfied women are a sure testimony that perhaps women all over the world need to start pulling their lips in order to reach orgasm.
Recently from random conversations with other African women, I learned that labia elongation is not only done in Zimbabwe but throughout Africa though it is not so popular in other countries. Zimbabwe has made some very positive progress with regards to empowering women; we have a decent level of female representation nowadays though we still need to unlock a lot of spaces for ourselves on the ground to close that gender gap.
It looks like we may also have the most sexually satisfied women in the bedrooms judging from responses I gathered the past week, how about that? Sexually empowered women in and out the bedroom I bet you never thought sex, power and woman could be put in the same sentence.
An interesting response from a man on labia extension was that women with extended labia have the desire to be men in their marriages because the extended labia looks and bulges like a penis and so those elongated feel and think they have something tangible as well. “As men we have our penis and these women envy us, they want to be men even in their marriages and that is the meaning of penis envy. She wants to have a penis. Penis envy, because if you ask the reason why they elongate it, most girls do not have a tangible reason,” he wrote.
Another man said that the importance of labia extension is all in the mind. “It’s all in the mind; I do not think there is any difference. Men try to cover up for their weaknesses in some areas probably loss of libido. Men need women to do this labia extension for them. They say when she has not done that and they fail to perform, they say that the woman is the reason.
Men blame the women. We usually as men don’t accept the blame, we put it on women so maybe this man was under-performing and wanted to blame it on his wife, that is why he sent her away,” he wrote.
One man said he loved the swallowing effect the labia has and women do it to just outdo each other sexually and he encouraged men to learn to explore the labia for them to appreciate it. “There is a sensitivity that happens to you, when you are having intercourse the moment you insert your penis, it has got a swallowing effect. I never knew the pleasure the labia could bring to a man until I fully explored it and I enjoyed playing with it and since then I have never looked back. Some women do it for the benefit of men, they want to get closer to a man, they do not want to lose them, they just want to be the number-one girl type,” he wrote. However, other men asked about this were indifferent and said they do not even know the difference between elongated and non-elongated because for them sex is sex. Some men even said they have no idea what they should do with the labia. Yes, they can see it but they are clueless on what needs to be done to explore the importance.
Labia elongation is something that every girl who has grown up on the African terrain has at least heard about. Others have experienced it, complete with its joys and pains, while for many it is a mystery they can only imagine. Some men have heard of it too, and others have gone beyond the doors of these protected waters. Some people cherish it with their entire being, while others could not care at all about a matter so trivial but it is what it is. One should not be punished for not having the labia extended.
