MIGHTY Warriors coach Shadreck Mlauzi says his side can only achieve success at the Caf Africa Women Cup of Nation in Cameroon if set plans are embraced by the authorities. Mlauzi, who recently attended a Caf Women Coaching Instructors course in Cameroon said plans become useless once they are just set aside and not implemented, adding that failure to value such would certainly lead to failure.

“We will always plan because to succeed in any endeavour you need a plan but then it becomes tricky when it is not valued and implemented. At the moment there are many grievances and lack of motivation among the players hence it is difficult to be starting preparations for the African Nations Cup but we need to beef the squad going ahead and seek new talent,” said Mlauzi.

The Sikhulile High School physical education teacher had come up with an ambitious road map to Rio last year but it was not embraced hence haphazard and hectic preparations.

He said it was unfortunate they had to overwork the players as they sought to get respectable score lines in Rio adding their opponents wanted to “rain goals” on them to get huge goal difference advantage.

Mlauzi said it was time to give other players an opportunity to feature for the national team and that they would be looking at the height dimension when scouting for talent for the national team.

He said in Rio about 80 percent of the goals they conceded were from corner kicks and free kicks with their opponents taking full advantage of their height superiority. He said lack of a proper league and funding were also impacting negatively on the delivery of results.

The former Inline coach said while their counterparts in South Africa had a budget of 200 million rand heading to Rio, the Mighty Warriors had less than $100.-Twitter: @rasmthembo
