ACCESSORIES are some of the most effective ways of sprucing up the look of our room. They make your home feel homely. It is amazing how small decorative items and accessories can make a huge impact in your space. They can change the look of your space completely.

Experts know the influence that small things such as mirrors, rugs, lighting, throw pillows, art and other accessories can have in a space and know how to use them correctly. They also know that these items, if not done correctly can break your space.

Hang your fondest memories on every wall. Set the mood with accessories. If the need be, plant an indoor garden to show off your green fingers or use artificial flowers and plants. Whatever decoration you choose, let your personality and what you like lead the way — that is how the place you live in becomes the place you call home.

When selecting your accessories consider other items in your space . . . make sure everything is proportional. Avoid selecting large items for a small space or vice versa, for example choosing a large piece of art or painting for a small space. Before choosing accessories, take the time to study scale and proportion of what fits best in your space. Scale and proportion are what help create a comfortable home.

Mixing colours and textures when choosing accessories is a great idea. Accessories should be used for visual purposes, they should be eye-catching. The good thing about accessories is that they are versatile; they can be altered to fit changing moods, styles or season. In other words they can be made to suit your needs. Use economical accessories to really break out with pops of colour and varying textures.

Large accessories should be placed first and sparingly, with medium and small-sized accessories filling in and adding balance where needed. Several small accessories can give the “feel” of a large item when grouped. Make sure there is a breathing space and avoid jumbling your items.
