A 29-year-old man from Insuza has been arrested for sleeping with a 15-year-old juvenile and impregnating her in the process. The man, Kelvin Dube, of Cephas Sibanda homestead, Village 1B in Insuza appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mrs Charity Maphosa facing charges of sexual abuse and pleaded guilty.
He was remanded in custody to 12 August for trial. Prosecuting Mr Gift Mutetwa said on an unknown date during the month of May 2016 at around 2pm, the accused proposed love to the complainant and she agreed.
It was the State’s case that during the same month when the complainant’s grandmother was away, Dube took advantage of the minor and requested to be intimate with her and she complied. The court heard that the two met at his homestead where they got into his bedroom and became intimate.
The State further told the court that from time Dube was constantly requesting to be intimate with the girl.
That kept on happening for some time and it was the State’s case that Dube was aware of the girl’s age but he still went on to have sex with her.
The matter came to light when the girl’s aunt discovered that she was pregnant and when asked she revealed that she was in love with Dube and that on several occasions they had been intimate.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Dube. The girl was taken to St Luke’s Hospital for medical examination.
