A 46-YEAR-OLD Mberengwa man is furious with his ex-wife after she claimed that she has been making him pay maintenance for 12 years for a child that is not his.
The shocking revelation came shortly after he had paid $2 000 to his in-laws as educational damages.
Mr Sorton Shumba is now reportedly involved in a bitter wrangle with his in-laws who allegedly had been denying him access to “his” daughter.

Sunday News also learnt that Mr Shumba’s ex-wife, Ms Rose Shoko, has threatened to get a peace order, as she was no longer interested in having any discussions with Mr Shumba concerning the child.

Ms Shoko is reportedly claiming that Mr Shumba has been threatening her through text messages.
Mr Shumba confirmed the development but insisted that the girl was his and blamed his in-laws for interfering in the matter.

“She (Ms Shoko) is now telling me that the child is not mine. Her name has also been changed and they also dropped my surname,” Mr Shumba said.

“But I strongly believe that the child is mine. She (Ms Shoko) has been making those statements to dent my zeal to have my child. I do not know why her family cannot accept that the child is mine.

“She has already indicated that she is going to get a peace order. I am surprised because she is taking the matter to Gokwe courts while we are in Mberengwa. Why can’t the matter be heard here. I feel helpless because why should I be taken to court twice. After paying $2 000 of which Rose later went to South Africa and later came last month to resolve this issue I am now being threatened again.”

When Ms Shoko was contacted, she declined to  comment and pressured the reporter to reveal the sources of the information.
“I can only talk to you when you tell me the person who gave you such information. I am tired and I am no longer interested in this issue. Just leave me and my family alone. You can write that Rose Shoko refused to comment,” said Ms Shoko.
