A 36-YEAR-OLD man stabbed his friend with a knife and left him severely wounded for drinking his beer without his permission.

Limukani Moyo of Bhagani area in Bulilima District last week appeared on initial remand before Plumtree magistrate Mr Taurai Manwere facing an attempted murder charge.

He was remanded in custody to 24 January.

Prosecuting, Mrs Rose Sibanda said Moyo became furious after his friend, Mr Cephas Ndlovu drank his beer which he had left while going to the toilet.

The following day Moyo confronted Mr Ndlovu over the matter and he stabbed him once on the back and twice on the chest with an Okapi knife.

He said Mr Ndlovu was rushed to the United Bulawayo Hospitals soon after the attack.

“Moyo and Mr Ndlovu were drinking beer at a bottle store at Bhagani Business Centre together with other peers on 29 November last year. Moyo left an unopened beer bottle on the table and went to relieve himself.

“Upon returning he found that someone had consumed half of the beer. He became furious and questioned his friends who told him that Mr Ndlovu was the one who drank the beer,” she said.

Mrs Sibanda said Moyo turned on Mr Ndlovu and a misunderstanding arose. She said in a bid to avoid confrontation Mr Ndlovu left the bottle store and proceeded home.

He met Moyo the following day and assumed that the matter had been resolved but his friend questioned him again on why he had drank his beer without permission.

“Mr Ndlovu then offered to buy another beer to replace the one he drank but Moyo didn’t entertain him. Moyo pulled out an Okapi knife from his pocket as Mr Ndlovu was walking away and stabbed him once on the back.

“Mr Ndlovu turned to face his friend who further stabbed him twice on the left side of the chest. Moyo fled from the scene and Mr Ndlovu was rushed to Plumtree District Hospital where he was referred to UBH as he was in a critical state,” she said.

Mrs Sibanda said the matter was reported to the police, resulting in Moyo’s arrest.
