BREAKING his silence since his reign came to an abrupt end in April, former Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze says he will not be lost to football as he was now working on some “projects” following his exit from the country’s football governing body. Mashingaidze’s six-year helm at Zifa came toan end when the Philip Chiyangwa-led board decided against renewing his contract which ran out end of March.

The former Zifa head of secretariat was viewed by many as the stumbling block to football’s success although he was at Zifa during a turbulent period, when the association struggled to attract sponsorship and had to rely on the benevolence of former president Cuthbert Dube.

However, in a recent interview Mashingaidze, who emphasised that he had been involved in the game for over two decades, said he was not about to part ways with soccer adding he had no hard feelings over his departure.

“I knew my contract would be ending and things would have gone either way, but football is now ingrained in me, so I won’t be leaving the sport. I have some projects underway that will benefit football and the nation at large. I am not at liberty to reveal the details for now but would do so soon,” said Mashingaidze.

Mashingaidze said he was still intent on adding value to the sport he joined in 1992 when he became part of the secretariat for sport for all. Mashingaidze replaced Henrietta Rushwaya in 2009 as acting CEO before being given the post on a full time basis.
